Chapter One - 4th Grade

  1. All I have ever taught is 4th grade, therefore, this chapter was very enlightening on the process of writing for younger students. It also has helped me see the different levels of writers in my classroom.

    Something that jumped out to me on page 7 was "'Word-walls" are considered 'no-excuses words' - that is, once they have been taught and displayed, they must be spelled correctly in all writing. I think I am going to have to put this into use in my classroom.

    Many of the author's thoughts really put teaching writing into perspective for me. I gained some new approaches that will hopefully help me reach the different levels of students. I am ready to get further into this book to begin getting into the lessons that I can use in my classroom.
